Ranma13's How to change the battery in your M3
From M3 Wiki

[edit] Purpose
The purpose of this guide is to explain how to change the battery in your M3 device. You can tell if you need to change the battery if your autosave is not saving your games when you turn on your DS despite the fact that autosave is on. Another telltale sign is losing your SRAM data when you take your M3 out of your DS.
[edit] Warning!
This guide assumes that you have adequate knowledge of proper soldering techniques. This is NOT a good project to start your first soldering lesson on. Possible things that can happen are dripping solder on a chip (very bad, very hard to clean up) and taking off a resistor/chip on accident (nearly impossible to solder back on). If you are not confident with your soldering skills, do not attempt this project. You have been warned.
[edit] Required Supplies
1. Screwdriver (to open up M3)
2. Soldering iron and extra solder (I recommend a 25-watt iron, anything lower and the solder takes too long to melt)
3. CR2016 watch battery
4. Scotch tape
5. Small flathead screwdriver or flat object (used to pry off tabs)
6. Hammer or other blunt striking object (used to pound tabs flat after prying them off)
[edit] Procedures
Put the M3 back together and test it in your DS by doing the following:
1. Load up a game using the M3.
2. Turn off the DS and immediately turn it back on.
3. Observe the M3 to verify that it autosaves correctly. This ensures that you did not damage anything while soldering the battery on.
4. Load up a game once again using the M3.
5. Turn off the DS and unplug the M3 and wait 10-20 seconds.
6. Plug the M3 back into the DS and turn it on.
7. Observe to see whether it autosaves or not. If it doesn't, you need to check and possibly re-solder the tabs. If it does, congratulations! You have successfully changed the battery!
